Who doesn’t love a bath? I know I do!

Sad to say it, some kids may not like it as much as you’d think. Maybe your child loves bath time, aside from getting water in their eyes? Therefore it’s a chore just to get their hair wet or to rinse shampoo out for that matter?

Me too, you’re not alone!

My two older kids never had a problem with getting their hair wet and washed. My oldest would have to wipe her eyes but I had never had to deal with a child SCREAMING at having water poured on her head.

My newest little one, is now three years old and has never liked water in her face. Much less, having me wet her hair.

I will never forget the day I decided she was big enough not to be in a baby bath anymore. I thought it was time to transition to the big girl tub. I was so excited for her. She was having a wonderful time playing in the water freely, (well, aside from mom trying to somewhat hold onto her.) Then came that moment, the one that I will never forget.

I covered her eyes, and slowly started to pour water on her hair. The way that child screamed, I’m telling you, you would think I was torturing her! She was not having it. Trying to rinse her hair after washing it, now that was a task! It has been an ongoing struggle, every single bath!

I tried to cover her eyes with a washcloth, laying her back, having her look up, even that thing they sell that is suppose to catch the water so it doesn’t get into their eyes. Yeah, none of that worked.

Over time I finalIy have been able to find a few things that have helped tremendously! And I want to share them with you.

First, distract! Make bath time fun!

Throw in extra bubbles by blowing bubbles or with an automatic bubble machine. My little one loves it when I turn on the bubble machine! Then she is busy trying to chase bubbles and I can sneak in and wet her hair. And they aren’t expensive. This is the one I use!

The next product that I, and her just love, are the color changing tabs! I get these from Dollar Tree. She loves to watch the water changing colors!

Another product I will suggest, are the bath paints and crayons. Who says bath time can’t be a time to encourage creativity? It looks like a hot mess, but, really it’s not a hard cleanup. Basically you just rinse your tub! And like the bubbles, they are distracted!

Here are a couple links for you.

Next I want to touch up on bath toys!

I use to let her throw in ALL of her bath toys at every bath. However, I have found that switching out toys and giving her two or three toys at each bath, she stays more entertained and doesn’t get as bored as easy. This also cuts down on water splashing.

Which saves you from wiping all the water up off the floor!

Last, I play music. I try to play music that has to do with the water. Whether it’s Ariel or Sesame street. My kids love music during their bath!

Put all those things together and that creates a fun bath for them. Then they will look forward to bath time and be more willing to let you rinse their hair if they are having fun.

Lastly, if all else fails, I will let my little daughter rinse her hair herself. It might take a little while, but as long as its getting her hair rinsed out that’s ok! I will try to do her baths in the evenings so it won’t matter too much if it takes a while, and then I bathe my other one in the mornings.

Anything to make it less traumatic for her.

Also, sometimes when she pours the water on her head I will sneak in with a cup of water and pour it slowly, she doesn’t even notice! And you know, every once in a while if you’re short on time and it doesn’t need a wash, just skip it! No biggie! I mean, if they have peanut butter or syrup paper macheted in, I would wash it. Ha!

Bonus tip!

I have also used one of her baby dolls to show her how to hold her head back so she doesn’t get water in her eyes. Use a doll or any other toy or action figure, whatever your child likes the best!

Thank you so much for stopping in today! I hope I was able to help you with some of my tips! Please stick around for more articles on the Mom Life!

All my Love,

Angela xoxo
