Fall activities for you and your family!
Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the way the colors change and fall and make a colorful blanket on the ground. I love the sound of leaves rustling in the wind! The sweaters, hoodies, snuggled up by the fireplace.
I like to sit on my porch with a good book and coffee. Listening to the wind and looking at the beautifulness. All is right in the world.
I love planning family fun days! It’s so good to get out in the cooler weather and spend time together as a family. Especially after those long summer months.
I would like to share with you some of my favorites things to do with the family in the Fall.
The first thing that I highly recommend, is your local pumpkin patch! The kids have so much fun with all the activities at ours. They can go into the patch and pick their own pumpkins, ride a little train, feed goats, cows and chickens, there also is a huge slide and they even have a zipline! We have so many pictures from the pumpkin patch over the years! We love it so much that we even had a birthday party there.
Second thing on my list, is painting acorns. Take the kiddos for a walk and look for acorns. Don’t forget a bag to put them in! I would suggest using a glue gun to glue the tops on either before or after you paint them. Let the kids get as creative as their little hearts desire. Paint faces on them and if you’d like to, throw some glitter in as well! Then, put them in little trays or vases and display them in your home!
Now, I’m going back old school with this next one!
Bobbing for apples!
Oh I love bobbing for apples. Seriously it is one of those classic activities that needs to come back! Every fall we would go bobbing for apples at church! So much fun to bob and watch other people bob! And not just the little ones, the adults as well! Just make sure to take an extra pair of clothes!
All you need is a barrel, water, and apples. Easy and lots of fun!
Another fun one is have a family scavenger hunt! Print out a list and instead of just marking items off the list when you find them, put the item in a box!
After the hunt, have the family sit down and go through and look at the items together. Talk about the feel and smell of the items etc. Start a conversation and ask everyone their favorite part of the hunt and of what they found. What can you do with each item?
If you want to go deeper, you can make teams! See which team finds the most items.
If you went to the pumpkin patch, I hope you got a good sized pumpkin for the next activity!
Have you ever heard of Pumpkin Golf? Get you a large pumpkin and clean it out as you normally would. Make the mouth a bit bigger, the bigger the better for the little ones. Grab a couple of the kids golf sets at the dollar store. You’re set!
If you have the time and want to carve more pumpkins, you could also create a little course throughout your yard. Make the mouth different shapes to make it harder or easier! You will have hours of fun! Invite some of your family and kid’s friends over and make a party out of it! Be sure to take pictures!
Something that my little one really enjoys is making fairy gardens. You can make a fall fairy garden adding pumpkins, leaves, a fox, owls etc. You can make fairy gardens out of just about anything! Carve a pumpkin out and make that your fairy’s little home. You could also add more levels of the home with smaller pumpkins!
I have also used planters, birdbaths and lanterns for my gardens. I think my favorite are the lanterns! Something to chic about it and it’s just gorgeous. Don’t forget to add in some fairy lights!
The last thing that I would recommend, is a trip to your local library. Libraries usually have a display up throughout the seasons, so there should be a nice Fall display! There should be Fall themed books out for children and adults as well.
Here is a list of children’s books that my little ones have enjoyed!
The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll
The Very Best Pumpkin by Mark Kimball Moulton
The Littlest Pumpkin by R.A. Herman
How Many Seeds In A Pumpkin by Margaret McNamara
Leaf man by Lois Ehlert
The Scarecrow’s Hat by Ken Brown
*Also check the magazines for Fall editions of Highlights, High Five, etc.*
My little ones absolutely love these books! I like to incorporate crafts with books. For example: The Scarecrow’s Hat. Make a hat with construction paper, markers, googly eyes etc.
You could even buy an actual hat to spruce up with straw, leaves, etc. Just have fun with it.
If you’re like me, Mom, I love to sit on my porch with a coffee and a cozy shawl or blanket. Here are some books that I enjoy around this time of year!
Anne Of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery (my personal favorite)
Autumn Lover by Elizabeth Lowell
Norma by Debbie Macomber
When We Fall by Emily Liebert
Dark Witch by Norah Roberts
Curl up, grab a book and relax. You deserve it! 🙂
I Hope you enjoyed this post! Leave me a comment and let me know which activities or books you tried. I’d love you know what you thought!
With Fall coming up I plan on posting more about Halloween so subscribe and be on the lookout for that content! I will be sharing some wonderful (and spooky) things with you all!
Until next time!
All my love,
Angela xoxo
